Pomplamoose at Grey Eagle Tuesday; September 30, 2014 Last night, the co-creator of Patreon, the crowdfunding site which David Forbes uses for the The Asheville Blade was in town. When he is not running the site, Jack Conte is half the musical duo/couple Pomplamoose (grapefruit in French), who played, with four other backup band members, at the Grey Eagle last night. While Pomplamoose is most known for the beauty and voice of its singer Nataly Dawn as she covers familiar songs, in person it became clear what a loud charismatic character Jack is (she steals the videos, he steals the concerts); leading the audience along, more than once coming down from the stage to energize an already excited crowd. AT the beginning of the show, I felt like it dragged--their musical skills (writing, playing) are so-so, and the lyrics seemed the same. (So I was surprised to see this song--written by them-- and video below which intelligently explores what its really like to be a couple).
