Pondering Thanksgiving traditions as I prepare a few dishes. Terry nor I are with our own kids. We are spending the day with very good friends and plan a festive feast. But more to the point this days importance has become magnified for me; and not for the usual reasons. Yes, Im thankful my family is doing very well, Terry and I have our health, etc. However, since I began my work as a activist in the realm of public education, I find myself feeling a gratitude and appreciation that I live in a country that has freedom as its cornerstone. Freedom to speak MY mind, not a companys, not a church, not a group of any kind, but MINE. Freedom to share my thoughts, to learn and freedom to grow. Thanksgiving is time for pause and reflection and I see in my reflection how important it is to hold your own opinion, speak out and pay attention. And always vote.
