Pongal is a four-day harvest festival celebrated by the Tamil community in India. The festival begins from January 13 and extends upto January 16. The word Pongal means ‘overflowing’ which portrays wealth and prosperity. Tamilians worship their Sun God on this festival and boil milk and let it overflow marking the festival. Tamilians decorate their house with mango and banana leaves on this day. They also draw kollams in front of their houses with rice flour.
