Poniżej wywiad, jakiego udzielił Fernando jednemu z hiszpańskich portali! Dowiecie się z niego m.in. jaki będzie nowy materiał Extinct! Przygotujcie się na prawdziwie gotycki album! Czyli na muzykę, za jaką ja osobiście najbardziej cenię Moonspell! The Sisters Of Mercy, Type ONegative, Fields Of The Nephilim, to jedne z najważniejszych inspiracji... Czekamy!! \m/ / M. 1 - Is there any place for improvisation once you hit Studio? Or is all written and composed before entering recording studio? That really depends on the album and of the process of each album. For Extinct, things were fast and deep. Result: our music is more alive! So there was room for improvisation, for our idiosyncrasies, for everything that allowed us to reach that human touch our songs need to blossom properly. Were done with the recording agenda, with pointing down too much stuff, with being on our comfort zone. This was ready, set, go! and it did wonders to our performance. 2 - What has changed musically since Alpha Noir album? Alpha and Omega were like a musical concept. We composed specifically to each half of the double album and they were limited to the concept. I thought it was great for the time, for our mindset, but first thing was to cut off the musical strictness and let it flow. So Extinct is varied but there is a sense of unity like in no other Moonspell album. It is an emotional ride and it was overwhelming for us to write such songs and to perform them with all our being. I hope we can pass just that feeling to the fans. What progressed was the twist and turns of our life, our music, our band, and that was a key influence even for the playing. To find ourselves, our true nature and voice it out, thats the spirit of the Extinct songs. 3 - Has the writing and recording process been different from your previous albums? Yes. We did it all very fast and deep as I told you. We had no time for adapting, trying, rehearsing. We did our songs, we pre-produced them and two days after we were recording in Sweden. It was like a blind jump, a vertigo that fueled this album with a special, a fresh yet darker energy. Alpha and Omega were detailed, they went to school. We threat Extinct as our prodigy boy which we saw growing too fast for our own good but couldnt stop to be proud at the result. 4 - What have been your influence and inspirations for the Moonspell songs you have been writing? Other music. We did listen to a lot of old Sisters of Mercy, Type O Negative, Fields. That was for inspiration, to build the roots. Were also hooked on Lion, new Peter Murphys brilliant album. I listened to a lot of Nick Cave. We also keep an eye on whats new on our scene and I really like stuff like Alcest for example. Music is always great to get ideas yourself. Then our life, our coming of age, our emotions, the life we have, the world we have, the possibility of extinction not only of life but of talent, of love. there was the big poetic versus academic tantra in my head, how to tell a story of, for example, a broken love but to use extinction as the background, the poetic magma under it? And I am happy to say that everyone got my musing quite gently and heartily and thats why music, performance and lyrics are so tight this time. 5 - Why the decission to choose Jens Bogren and the Fascination Street Studios? I heard his productions, I visited his site, i asked friends around, the usual. We wanted to break out of the DIY spirit for a while and to invest in sound quality and to try and give a step up in our music. That meant coming out of our comfort zone, bands get there eventually, and go and record with a true pro. That was the main idea behind it. then I reached for Jens and told him i just wanted to make a really powerful sounding yet dark and sometimes fragile album. Inspired by true goth bands, not the gothic metal of today, no over the top symphonic, just a honest goth album with true feelings. He told me he was a huge goth fan in his old days, and that he was really looking forward to produce something like this for a while.so, like I expected, the chemistry was right and we did a very right choice. Jens is an incredible producer.
