The Pool Technician is responsible for ensuring daily pool and spa operation and maintenance. This position requires an understanding of pool and spa equipment, water chemistry and chemical handling. The Pool Technician will assist the General Manager to ensure the pool and spa is operated in a safe manner that provides the best Member Experience. Job Summary: - Perform a variety of tasks to ensure proper water chemistry. This includes water tests and ensuring adequate levels of chlorine, pH, calcium hardness, total alkalinity. Treating water with chemicals to maintain a safe and healthy water quality and monitor chemical usage. Able to calibrate chemical automation and diagnose problems - Wash and scrub pool area and water line. Make all efforts to provide a clean pool / spa deck. Maintain cleanliness of mechanical room, storage rooms, electrical and boiler rooms - Verify equipment operates properly, check and empty filter buckets and drain and fill spa bi-weekly - Ensure the highest safety standard in pool area and ensure pool log book is up to date and regulations are being followed - Other Facility service tasks as required Our Ideal Candidate: - 1-3 years’ operating, maintaining or cleaning a body of water.Previous experience in fitness industry or any aspects of facility maintenance an asset - General knowledge of mechanical diagnosis and repair an asse - High School graduate or equivalent - Possession of a Certified Pool Operator Certification (CPO) or an Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) an asset - Post-secondary education an asset, facility management, construction or maintenance. - WHMIS, Standard First Aid (including CPR-C including AED) - Proper swimming pool cleaning methods and use of swimming pool chemicals Understanding of water chemistry and able to troubleshoot to maintain consistent water clarity and chemistry - Ability to demonstrate sensitivity, objectivity, confidentiality, good judgment and professionalism - Excellent communication skills in addition to a solid work ethic - Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills - Computer literacy; proficiency with various word processing, spreadsheet, database etc - Establish and maintain professional working relationships with all levels of the organization - Additionally, will be required to interact in a professional manner with external partners, vendors, and GoodLife members Working Conditions: - Must be able to work independently - Work environment involves bending, lifting, sitting, computer use, working on warm pool decks and around water - Must be flexible and willing to work overtime, evenings, weekends as required.
