Poor GSM Services in Nigeria It is indeed embarrassing, - TopicsExpress

Poor GSM Services in Nigeria It is indeed embarrassing, distressing, and worrisome on the poor global system for Mobile Communication (GSM) in Nigeria. It is crystal and abundantly clear now that the various organizations responsible for the GSM operations are just in Nigeria to dupe Nigerians especially based on poor networks and the charges when communication is not clear. In other words, the quality of service (QOS) no longer exists. This is not the best in our great country, Nigeria. However, the regulatory body and or watch dog of the telecommunication industry, that is, the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) should wake up urgently and play its basic and mandatory functions or roles for the benefit of all Nigerians. Consumers are generally worried with the quality of service they receive. The NCC should therefore compel on the operators to improve on their services or face sanction. It is on record that in 2007, the house of representative mandated an impromptu committee to investigate QOS, also the senate constituted a committee to urgently investigate the poor service offered by the operators. It is most worrisome that the QOS by the operators have degenerated in fact jumped from frying pan into the fire, in other words, become worse. Many Nigerians are aware of the fine imposed by the NCC on the operators between March and May 2012 which amounted to N1.17billion on four GSM operators for failing to meet with their key performance indicators (KPI). MTN and Etisalat were fined N360m each; Airtel N270 million and Globacom N180 million for operating below bars of KPI. Despite these, it is flabbergasting that Nigerians continue to witness poor services. Is it a situation of ‘’all things bright and beautiful, Nigeria kills them all’’? This must not be so because currently we are under strong democratic structure, and we need to sustain it in order to make meaningful development and progress. For consumers in Nigeria to benefit immensely from the services just like the citizens of other countries, the NCC should wake up and play its watch dog roles so that we can get improved GSM services.
