Poor doggie. Please share. Quick Stats but read the story too. Animal Friends of the Valley. Intake number 245024. Boxer, male, name is Lucas, listed as 2 years but really 1 year and 4 months, gets along with kids, dogs his own size and small dogs. He likes to play so a small dog needs to be playful. He is potty trained and is an indoor/outdoor dog. According to the former owner he likes it outside, not sure about cats. Owner states, “He likes to run, play with toys, and sit in your lap. “ There has been a Facebook post circulating this last week that shows us how one day out of a shelter can change the dog’s personality. Look at the difference one day can make when you dump your dog at a shelter. The reason I share this particular dog is I met this owner a couple months ago. They did not contact me to help re-home the dog. Although Walter and Friends is not taking dogs in until we have more funding, one of our focuses is keeping dogs out of shelters. I live about 5 minutes from these people and have helped with another dog but no contact to help just notified once the dog was dumped. So, I asked why they didn’t post and try to rehome. I always enjoy new excuses. This one was good. “My husband thought people would judge him.” So, this dog didn’t get a chance at re-homing because of someone’s ego. Really? I told them that I judge them way more now than I would have if they tried to re-home. I am frankly disgusted with this situation. So, this dog got dumped yesterday. He is in the lost and found section of Animal Friends of the Valley. Found in County means that he was either dumped in the night drop or dumped near the shelter. The owner stated that they got rid of him because, “He jumps on people (you can train dogs not to jump) and people couldn’t go on our patio because of his jumping. He wants to “play” with the next-door neighbors dog and tried to get next door to PLAY. He also chews.” You can also do things to help the dogs from chewing. WOW! A playful puppy Boxer. Sounds pretty normal to me. Not sure if I could have help with changing this happy, playful dog into what they expected. So, here is a dog that had a family one night ago. He was fed, kept warm, had a doggie buddy to play with, and spent his last free night with the only family he has ever known. He didn’t do anything wrong. He didn’t bite anyone. He didn’t get sick and didn’t have huge medical bills. He got in the car thinking he was going for a car ride but little did he know he was loosing his home, his warm dog bed, his mom and dad, his four legged sister, and the comforts of a home all in one moment. He will be somewhere where he will be lucky to get out of the kennel once a day, where he will listen to dogs barking and watch his kennel buddies walk the line. He only loved them even though they claim they didn’t have time for him he loved them and was loyal. However, they did not return the favor to him. Instead of working through the issues and trying to find a home they thought a better option was to put a dog in a small kennel for the last two weeks (if he is lucky) of his life only to be walked to the back by a complete stranger and killed with a needle. No one to comfort him, no one to hold him in his final moments. His body will be thrown in a pile of other dead dogs and cats. He doesn’t deserve this. No dog deserves this. I can’t imagine how scared he is. This dog looks so sad. He may be lucky and get adopted. That is my hope and why I share. I doubt you will see his real personality in the shelter but I hope someone can have it in their heart to be his new forever home. Walter and Friends will help with the pull fees if he goes to a good home meaning we want to see where the dog is going. He probably will be on a stray hold for a couple more days but can be adopted after that. I know that we can’t save them all but I will always try. Crossing my fingers for Lucas. Poor guy. I will post a few more pictures in the comments so click on the original posted photo to see more.
