Poor oppressed Malaysians. With the reduction in petrol prices - TopicsExpress

Poor oppressed Malaysians. With the reduction in petrol prices today, RON97 all over Malaysia is running out of stock as more motorists pump RON97 instead of RON95. Price of RON97 is RM2.46 per litre and is exactly 20sen more expensive than RON95 at RM2.26 per litre. When RON95 price increase 20sen, Malaysians get angry. But now Malaysians voluntarily pay 20sen extra to pump RON97 instead and dont get angry. BTW, RON97 does not actually give you more energy per litre compared to RON95 and the benefits will not be felt for most majority of cars.on the road. So does this mean if you use RON 97 your car will develop more power than compared to using RON 95 fuel? Yes and no. Generally, the compression ratio of your engine is fixed so whether you pump in Ron 95 or 97, the power output will be about the same. Even if there is a difference it is usually due to better additives in the more expensive fuel rather than improvement from the higher RON itself. Instead, what you want is to avoid the use of petrol with lower octane numbers than specified by the car manufacturer, as this may lead to the problem of engine knocking or pre-ignition. Basically, just pump petrol with the RON rating specified for your car. livelifedrive/malaysia/news/view/28453/explaining-the-difference-between-ron-95-97
