Poppies should not be worn until the last Friday in October. That is when all Royal Canadian Legions start their Poppy Campaigns were a monetary donation is accepted for a Poppy. The money raised from the Poppy Campaign is used to fund the many programs avaible to our Veterans. Not that long ago, the funds were used from Districts A, B, C, D, E for a new bus for our Veterans at Sunnybrook Hospital. This was made possible by the Generous Donations by the people of Canada and with this bus the Veterans can go on outings, Remembrance Day Ceremonies and Dinners, Fishing Trips, Canada Day Celebrations, etc. Having the means to be able to have some joy, laughter and normalcy in their lives means everything to our Veterans and all of this is through the Publics generosity and the willingness of the Legion Membership to make preparations and arrangements, of food, area and additional help so that those days become a day for our Veterans. Ever Friday, all year long, is wear a Red Shirt Friday for Support Our Troops by the Royal Canadian Legion. The majority of our Legions have these shirts For Sale! Legions will happily Order Shirts for you if they dont have any shirts on hand. We welcome New Members to help achieve these wonderful things for our Veterans young and old alike. We need new members to help carry on this constant caring for our Veterans by bringing in new ideas to help Legions across Canada flourish. Our programmes pick up the pieces that have fallen through the cracks like our Out of the Cold programme to keep our Veterans off the streets. The Legion has always negotiated with the government to do things for our Veterans. We are getting older and we need help delivering our mandate. Our Legion Flags should be at half staff for Cpl. Cirillo until he is laid to rest. Lest We Forget
