Popularly elected Chairman and Leader of the main opposition - TopicsExpress

Popularly elected Chairman and Leader of the main opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP), Chief Somano Kapen and his able and dynamic Deputy, Dr. Prince Alex Harding have been working very hard to ensure their party is once more at peace. Since the moment Chief Kapen was declared the winner, he has been making overtures to his “younger brother” Amb. Alie Bangura whom he soundly defeated in a recent free and fair elections for position of Chairman & Leader. However, Bangura has vowed to ensure the good Chief is dethroned. Backing Alie Bangura is Dr. Wusu Sannoh whom, sensing defeat at the hands of the veteran and ace politician Dr. Prince Harding, withdrew from the contest for position of Deputy Chairman leaving Harding to go unopposed. Sannoh, like Bangura, is not interested in any peace moves for now and wants the entire elections to be declared null and void and re-conducted. In the midst of all the efforts to make peace and reconcile the party, this newspaper last evening of September 8th 2013, got news from reliable sources that former Campaign Manager of Julius Maada Bio, will be resigning from SLPP this morning. John B.S. Tucker is believed to be preparing to join either APC or any other party except SLPP. A source close to Tucker told this paper, “John Tucker is a smart guy. He knows SLPP can never be the same again let alone win any elections in this country at this rate so he is jumping ship. No matter what Chief Somano Kapen or Prince Harding do, they cannot reconcile the shattered SLPP”. Meanwhile former Chairman & Leader, John Benjamin returned back to Freetown last evening from a vacation out of the country. He told us in an exclusive chat that he was just “breezing through the country” to check on the ailing former president, Tejan Kabbah who is admitted in a hospital in Freetown and to check up on his own mum in Segbwema. Following this, Benjamin says he will be “flying out of the country again to continue my well earned vacation”. Benjamin recently gracefully relinquished his position after four years of hard, dedicated service to the SLPP.
