Population Growth Some comments on my previous posts have said that it is the population growth in India which is the cause of our economic problems. To my mind this is a superficial approach. It is true that we have a large population to feed, educate, provide jobs, etc. But to check population growth there is only one way, and that is to raise the standard of living of the masses. Even today most middle class people in India have only one or two children, because there has to be a lot of investment of money and time on each child. On the other hand, poor people want more children as they have to invest very little on a child, and their children start earning at a very young age, thus supplementing the family income. If we raise their standard of living they too will have only one or two children
