Population ageing represents the shady monster of the XXI century. Politicians and civil society neglect and/or avoid reckoning both the gravity and the imminence of this process. State intervention has got limits and costs, and the ever-enlarging tops of worldwide population pyramids alert about the approaching breaking point. Welfare State and pension systems must be revised in order to foresee and face this phenomenon efficiently. What if pension system reforms were the key for debt extinguishment? What if pension systems were privatized and the state budget, which is spent for pensions, was invested in different sector?
