Portia & Serenity ~ Night with a Unicorn ~ (Samantha Renee Saturno 11/24/02) Riding fast, riding steady Bare legs closed around white flanks Slender fingers gently tangled in silver mane As she trots Quick and graceful That long coiled horn bobbing with the nod of her head as she moves Hooves kicking up dust trails and rainbows As she crosses woodland, meadow and desert Almost gliding imperceptibly above the ground Like Pegasus on high Knowing only the distant horizon and breeze Comfort and solace ebbing from the bare back of the beautiful beast Galloping like the wind As a cliff edge approaches One graceful leap And they were riding through the clouds Rising to the stars ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Since that night, she dreamt of horses Those that knew her, knew her horses And they would ride hours on end Never far from the saddle And she passed on her tale Of her midnights ride on a unicorn Under the bright glow of the moon Watching awe and wonder shine in the eyes of young ones and reflect in those of their elders Each of them brought to a shade of their own youth With each telling of her story As she spoke it with an impish smile Reliving the events Remembering the wind in her hair, the grace of the trot And the soft snorts and whinnies As she rode that fantastic unicorn Through that nights duration, carefree and young
