Portland Day Two, aka The Best Day of Her Life Looking out the - TopicsExpress

Portland Day Two, aka The Best Day of Her Life Looking out the window this morning, we saw that the weather was dark, cloudy, stormy and pouring rain but Seattle and I just looked at each other and, being the Canadian Girls that were are, said Meh and off we went to find Santa downtown. Sea was especially nonchalant as she had a shield, her brand new Hello Kitty umbrella that Bob gave her... until we stepped out outside and just about lost that umbrella! We were immediately hit with pelting rain and I could barely push her chair against the wind; we were both left a bit stunned, looked at each other and, after seeing the shocked expression on each others faces, we just doubled over laughing hysterically! Thankfully the bus stop was just around the corner:) It cost 5 dollars for an all-day pass (free for 7 and under- score!) and that pass includes all types of public transport. Five dollars!! Seriously?! We were dropped off at Pioneer Square to see the 70 foot Christmas Tree all lit up with Eco-friendly lights; it was glorious! And along side all that beauty was a huge, magnificent police horse named Diesel that came over to say hi to Seattle. When we told Officer Rob that we were from Canada, he said that he and Diesel had just been up in Vancouver, BC training with our Mounties- very cool! We did some more exploring until we decided we needed to dry off and warm up with some hot chocolate and then who did we find but Santa! Seeing Santa made her day; seeing her smile made my life- she was so thrilled! The storm worsened so we boarded a bus back to the hospital and along the way she says, Mama? Yes? This was the best day of my entire life. (I hear you, Grinch- my heart grew three times bigger in one day, too...) And it was no doubt the best day of her life until... we walked into the playroom at the hospital on the way to our room and found ourselves right in the middle of a cake and clown filled party! More magic tricks, more treats, more fun to be had and more friends to be made! Festivities settled down around dinnertime but she only wanted a quick bite to eat before dragging me back to the playroom for yet another round of air hockey. And what happened just as we start another round? Along come players from the Portland Winterhawks hockey team, bearing smiles and.... more presents. Seattle was a little overwhelmed by all of these big guys in jerseys at first but it soon became sweet and somewhat hilarious after Seattle picked out her toy and it took four of the players to actually open the packaging- the running joke was How many hockey players does it take to open a Disney toy? Ha! But isnt toy packaging every parents nightmare?! I know its mine... It was incredibly sweet of the players to visit with the patients; I know it meant a lot to the them. Up next was crafts, making handprint Rudolph faces with a volunteer, then some more playing with friends (and more saying goodbyes as we head out tomorrow after our early appointment with her leg surgeon.) Seas now in bed and, after recounting our day in pictures and writing, I will agree that this was certainly a Best Day Of My Life too!! ~Xoxo Lindsay
