Position Statement From the Event Director Regarding the 2014 - TopicsExpress

Position Statement From the Event Director Regarding the 2014 Registration Process Sunday June 1st 915am Honored, Humbled, Frustrated. I speak on the behalf of all past and present planning committee members who have worked hard to make the Dallas climb what it is today: We are incredibly honored to be involved in such an amazing tribute and humbled that it has become so important to you. Certainly a measure of the climb’s success is how popular it is; indicated by how quickly participants sign up and positions are filled. While we are still trying to analyze all the data that has come in, all accounts indicate that fire registrations filled up in less than 60 seconds and law enforcement filled up in less than five minutes. At this time it appears that all climber and alternate spots have been taken and we are already approaching 150 names on a waitlist. Finally, we share the frustration of those who were not able to register in time or had issues during the registration process. Every year we have attempted to improve the registration process in order to ensure that everyone gets an equal and impartial opportunity to take part in this event. Those of you who have climbed several years have recognized our efforts to this end by seeing a different registration system each year. Each year we find a system that we believe will be more capable of handling our event’s demands. The “problem” is that we only get one shot at this, once a year. Any issues that come up once the registration is live are compounded by the how fast we fill up – so if errors do occur there is absolutely no way to correct them in time. I know this is frustrating for the participant; it is frustrating for us as organizers as well. It will take us most of the day today to analyze and confirm the registrations. Rest assured we will do everything in our power to address and correct issues as they are identified. Later today the Participant Director, Rebecca Pauley, will be issuing a followup statement regarding this year’s registration. In anticipation of registration issues we are going to create an online form for you to submit any issue you may have had in the process: dallasstairclimb/report-a-registration-problem We are committed to the continual improvement of our event…because it matters. Once again we are incredibly humbled by your support of our event. While we would very much like to give everyone the chance to climb, it would not be what it is should we do that.
