Positive. Realistic. Negative. I think what it is is this: people want to feel good. So when I point out things that make them think maybe the thing they want wont happen (Justin legalizing pot, for example), they feel bad. They hate that. They hate thinking it, hate feeling it, and most of all, they hate thinking that *I* of all people might be right about it. So rather than address the actual points I made, they accuse me of being negative and pessimistic. One could say they are trying to focus on the positive. One could also say they are disregarding information in order to make their position easier to hold on to. So they feel better. But it comes down to people wanting to feel good and optimistic about the future, because it is easier to get though each day. Otherwise it all seems pointless. I dont *choose* to take an opposing view on a topic, I just point to the facts that I see, and try to interpret them. No matter what the issue. The difference is this: I hate feeling bad and pessimistic and being the bearer of bad tidings just as much as anyone. I dont ENJOY spoiling the party and warning people about a coming storm.... but I am good at it. It is what I was built and trained for. My whole life has been spent trying to decipher the nonsense I hear coming out of smiling faces and trying to find the truth they are attempting to keep from me. Teachers, parents, cops, the TV. So you smile and tell yourself everything is going to be alright if that makes you feel better. Me, I aint letting my guard down... not for a long while yet.
