Positive media coverage against UAE terror list welcomed The President of the Muslim Association of Britain has welcomed the positive media coverage of the rejection of the United Arab Emirates’ decision to place the association on a list of terror organisations. Dr Omer El-Hamdoon said, “We have been very happy with the positive response that we have received and especially in social media, where many people have expressed bemusement at this draconian decision. We intended to step up the pressure against the UAE as other organisations are doing in the respective countries. We fully expect the British Government to back our calls for the United Arab Emirates to withdraw our name from this list.” However, speaking from MAB Head Office in North Wembley where a News conference was held earlier in the week, Dr El-Hamdoon commented that the mainstream British media have not been as keen to cover the story: “With the exception of the BBC’s World Service, we have not heard from the national British media. That’s a little strange considering our fight back against the attempt to damage our reputation is a good news story. Our campaign to have our name removed will be of concern to every fair-minded person in this country who support freedom and justice and who are unwilling to accept wild and baseless accusations.” Dr El-Hamdoon confirmed that the organisation was actively working to enlist the support of the British government in the way that the Norwegian government has come to the assistance of its Muslim organisation and have asked the UAE for clarification. “We are hoping that the British Government will do what the Norwegian and US State department has already done. We fully expect them to confirm that our organisation and the others mentioned in the UK have nothing to do with terrorism and to ensure that our names are removed from this list.”
