Positive spending Its Saturday afternoon, do you go to the mall and buy a pair of jeans and a shirt you dont need or spend the money taking in a matinee session of a musical with a friend? At the University of Wisconsin in Madison, US, a recent survey of nine leading research studies on the psychology of consumption found that the only type of spending that had a positive effect on our happiness was leisure.
