Possibility and Necessity: As far as a contingent or possible - TopicsExpress

Possibility and Necessity: As far as a contingent or possible existent is concerned its existence and non-existence are both possible, in other words both the existence and non-existence of a contingent existent lies within the realm of possibility or imkan. Therefore as far as a contingent being is concerned both being and non-being are equally possible or equally non-necessary.Therefore in order to give preference/tarjih to either of the two possibilities of its existence or non-existence an external agent or marjah is required to give preference to the possibility of being over non-being,therefore converting the possibility of being into a necessity, or alternatively to give preference to the possibility of non-being over the possibility of being, rendering non-being necessary. Therefore a possible or contingent being can only come into being or existence if the possibility of its being is given preference over the possibility of its non-being, thereby changing the possibility of its existence into a necessity, and this requires the existence of an external agent who has to be a necessary existent/wajib al wujud.
