Possible research opportunity! We received this email and wanted to share it with you: Calling Parents for a Paid Research Study on Social Support and Stress! My name is Meara Faw, and I am a doctoral candidate at the University of Washington. For my dissertation project, I am conducting a research study examining how social support affects the health and well-being of parents who have a child or children with special needs. My own personal observations about special-needs childrens lives and well-being as well as the parents well-being made me really interested to understand the influences of stress and family dynamics among parents with a child with special needs. This is a paid study (participants will each receive $25), that involves having at least one parent of a child with special needs and someone they know participate in a research appointment with me. These appointments last between 90-110 minutes. During the appointment, both individuals will provide me with 4 saliva samples, have a conversation together, and answer a questionnaire. All study procedures have been reviewed and approved by the University of Washingtons Institutional Review Board. Most appointments take place in participants home at a date and time that is convenient for them. I hope that the information from this study will ultimately help parents who have a child with special needs by providing information about how support benefits their health and well-being and how parents can best be supported.
