(Post 2 of 2). Well, its official. I am, according to the state of Kansas anyway, a convicted drug dealer and unlawful burner. To some of you, this might not be in any way surprising. But yesterday on the phone, when I was informed by the guy who hired me recently for a job conditioned on passing a thorough background check, physical, and drug test that I had a criminal history, and that because I had falsified my application, I was not going to get the job, I was a smidge surprised. I went and picked up the report. Sure enough. There it was. Im looking at it now. Shawnee County, Kansas. 1996: misdemeanor conviction of possession with intent to sell or distribute opiates or narcotics. 6 months probation and fine. And 1989: misdemeanor conviction with fine for unlawful burning. I called the criminal court in Topeka and said, in so many nice but very annoyed words, hey, thats not me! Same name but diff birth date. The nice lady looked at the cases (the oldest one she had to pull off microfilm!) and said yep. Not you. The bottom line is that somehow Kansas has tagged me with part of another guys record (there is doubtless a lot more if statistics abt repeat offenders are true). I guess my reaction must have been believable to the guy who had hired me because they are holding the job for me til I can get this straightened out. So Monday, I will start trying to figure out how to do that. And I dont even know how to start. Anyone know a good lawyer? Anyway, as annoying as it is, as much as I need the job and its income like NOW, it will be a hilarious story one day. I hope. In the meantime, if you need anything - anything at all *wink* *wink* - or if you need something burned illegally, apparently Im your man. And I need the money. So, please dont hesitate to call.
