[Post # 730] During the summer of 1921, Turiyanandas suffering continued to increase. Now it was skin trouble on his back. Swami Saradananda came to Varanasi from Calcutta with Dr. Kanjilal to see his brother monk. The same year the best surgeons of Varanasi operated on Swami Turiyananda, removing a large carbuncle and much of the tissue surrounding it. In mid-1922, he suffered from another carbuncle. This operation was the last one. Turiyanandas entire back became infected, and gangrene set in: The doctors lost hope. Swami Turiyananda passed away at 6:45 p.m. on 21 July 1922. The night before his death, he said to his attendants, Tomorrow is the last day. Towards the end, he chanted, Om Ramakrishna, Om Ramakrishna. Then he asked an attendant to help him sit up. With folded hands he saluted the Master, and then drank a little holy water. He then summed up his lifes experience: Everything is real. Brahman is real. The world is real. The world is Brahman. The life force is established in Truth. Hail Ramakrishna! Hail Ramakrishna! Say that he is the embodiment of Truth, and embodiment of Knowledge. He then recited an Upanishadic mantram along with Akhandananda: Sat yam jnanam ananiam Brahma (Brahman is Truth, Knowledge, and Infinity). Slowly he closed his eyes, as if merging into Brahman.
