Post-Doctoral Researcher Position: INSTITUTO DE INVESTIGACIONES OCEANOLOGICAS Population ecology of jellyfish in the Humboldt Current Upwelling System – Instituto de Investigaciones Oceanológicas-Universidad de Antofagasta (Chile) Research Group: We seek skilled, highly-motivated, independent researchers who wish to undertake Post-Doctorate research in the Climate Change Ecology Research Group, at the Instituto de Investigaciones Oceanológicas (iio.cl), Universidad de Antofagasta (uantof.cl). The university is located in northern Chile, at the core of the Humboldt Current Upwelling System (HCUS), one the most productive ecosystems on Earth. Nature of research: The overall goal of the group is to better understand and predict responses of marine organisms to on-going climate change in the HCUS. Although research themes span a broad range of issues, the group needs a researcher to work on population responses of jellyfish to the particular climatic (long-term) trends in the HCUS (e.g. cooling, increased productivity, expansion of the OMZ). More details on research themes and publications by the group and the Institute can be found at: iio.cl Requirements and duties: Applicants should have a PhD and advanced statistical skills, must be excellent team-players, comfortable with cross-disciplinary study, demonstrate an aptitude for proactive research and possess a good record of publications in leading journals in his/her discipline. How to apply: Applicants should provide a brief letter (1-2 pages) indicating their academic interests and their ideas for research within the outlined theme, ideally comprising both laboratory and field work. Application should be accompanied by an academic CV and contact information of at least two references, all as a single PDF and delivered to Dr. José M. Riascos (josemar.rv@gmail). There is not closing date for applications, but the position is available immediately and applications will also be revised immediately; we expect the successful candidate to start no later than September 2013.
