Post From Mayor Nolan Crouse: “Key Priorities for future St. Albert for Persons with Special Needs 1. Corporate hiring policy for individuals with special needs 2. Implement Handi-bus into Edmonton in fall of 2013 3. Host a lunch to acknowledge employers who employ folks with special needs (this will be the 3rd luncheon) 4. Complete the sidewalk, bus stop and bus pad work for mobility challenged 5. Assist with fundraisers 6. Complete the para-ramps at all intersections 7. Install more audible cross-walk pushbuttons 8. Finish the additional count down lights at intersections In the past few years the following initiatives have been undertaken 1. Hosting of the 2008 Summer Provincial Special Olympics 2. Hosting of the 2011 Canada Winter Games Special Olympics 3. Public art developed for Special Olympians unveiled in 2013 4. Provided funds for enhancing St Albert’s Special Olympic program 5. Paid one year for Lo-Se-Ca waste removal 6. Para-ramps installed at about 70% of intersections 7. Accessible (and audible) crosswalk pushbuttons installed 8. Count down lights at intersections installed 9. Signage on streets where there are children with hearing difficulty 10. All buses are low-floor buses 11. Zebra cross walk markings installed 12.
