Post Graduate Camp 2013 July 1, 2013 by pitfp On 20th and 21st of April (Saturday and Sunday), an event which is Postgraduate Camp 2013 was held in Faculty of Education, UTM Skudai, UTM. This program is a mean of collaboration between Faculty of Education and Faculty of Education Postgraduate Society (FEPS) 2013. The target audience has been a group of 150 postgraduate students in Faculty of Education, involving both local and international students. The students were divided into two groups based on their semester of study. Postgraduate Camp A took place in the Seminar Room, intended for those who are in their first to third semester. Meanwhile, those who are in fourth to sixth semester were grouped in Postgraduate Camp B and placed in the ‘Smart Classroom’. The program started on 20th of April at 8.00am with the registration process near the Seminar Room. Each of the participants was provided with a file containing a program book and stationary. A number of 64 students registered in Camp A, while 56 students registered for Camp B. The camp was followed by the first slot which was “Proposal Presentation” by PM Dr. Muhammad Sukri B Saud in Camp A and “Thesis Writing” by PM Dr. Yeo Ker Jia and Dr. Fatin Aliah Phang in Camp B. All students were then given a short break and provided with some refreshments at 10.30 am. After the short break, participants in Camp A were given with opportunity to directly listen to the experiences of several lecturers who graduated their PhD study on time. The slot, which was “Preparing for Grade On Time (GOT)” provided the participants with lots of information and experiences sharing from panel Dr. Nur Biha Shukor, Dr. Azlina Kosnin and PM Dr. Rahim Hamdan. On the other hand, all participants in Camp B obtained knowledge in “Writing Impact Factor Journal” slot by PM Dr. Zainal Abidin bin Zainuddin. All participants in both Camp A and B were then given 1 hour break for lunch and Zohor prayer. The final slots for the first day of Postgraduate Camp were then continued by PM Dr. Seth Sulaiman in his “Proposal Defend” slot and “Survival in VIVA” slot by Prof. Dr. Mohd Salleh B. Abu in Camp A and Camp B. At 4.30pm, the Postgraduate Camp was adjourned. The participants were provided with some refreshments before they went home. On the second day of the camp which was on 21st of April 2013 started with the first slot for Camp A and Camp B at 8.00 am with “Article Writing” by Dr. Bambang Sumintomo in Seminar Room and “Data Management & Report Writing” by Dr. Dayang Hj Tiawa and Dr. Adibah Abd. Latif in Smart Classroom. Before starting the final slot, all participants were given a short break with some refreshments. Participants from Camp A and Camp B were then gathered in Seminar Room as a preparation for the next slot of the camp which was “Motivation” by Prof. Ahmad Fauzi B. Ismail. The slot ended at 1.00 pm. After that, the emcee for the slot called upon the advisor of FEPS 2013, Dr. Nor Hasniza Ibrahim, to deliver the closing speech for Postgraduate Camp 2013. In her speech, Dr Hasniza Ibrahim expressed her gratitude towards all participants and everyone who involved in making the camp a successful event. The camp was officially ended at 2.00pm. The participants and all speakers were then invited to the have their lunch as prepared by the committee members. This program had also required the participants to give their feedback and response towards the camp they underwent. Majority of the participants shared positive responses. Several responses are as follow; The information provided is suitable especially toward my research.(participant A) The tips provided are useful for me to start my research especially from the writing aspect.(participant G) Become more motivated to finish my research and graduate on time.(participant J) Thank you for organizing this excellent program. Especially for students in Sem 1, 2, and 3.(participant C) Besides that, the participants also suggested that several programs as continuity for the Postgraduate Camp 2013 that had been organized. They were also requesting for a longer time allocation and more hands-on activities for the future program.
