Postcard perfect weather. Hard to believe yesterday we passed a sign that said 82 degrees Fahrenheit! Camped last night under a full moon on the beaches of Oregon Dunes National Seashore. Oregon is a delightfully beautiful ride. If only we could wish the cars and trucks away. Their noise breaks the deep harmony of the tall pines and firs, spruce and cedar, their incessant roaring almost drowns out e mighty roar of the Pacific surf. We are finding it hard to make big days as far as distance is concerned. It is a toss up between taking advantage of to great weather to make distance or taking advantage of this great weather to take it easy and enjoy the beaches, tide pools, dunes etc. it seems the latter is winning out. Along with landscape and weather we are frequently reminded of the third component in our road trip trinity, -wildlife. Common mures, pelicans, ospreys, puffins, gulls and lots of herons have accompanied us along the coast. California sea lions and Roosevelt elk have been the big creatures of late, as well as some curious harbour seals. Yesterday we passed over some hills with a grand view over folds of mountains extending to the east. It was beautiful but then the clear cuts, lots of clear cuts, slashed across our view like scars on a slaves whipped back. It brought tears to my eyes. Those ancient forests will not return in my or Felipes lifetime. Grandeur can be easily destroyed but not replaced.
