Posted by: Sue Williams The BLVD was super crowded last night. You wouldnt see something like that on a good day. Why? Because of the free entertainment and goodies. If people had to pay or bring their own candy, thered be considerably less people there. The homeless and transients are not the BLVDs problem. The problem is that the businesses are poorly located - in a poor neighborhood. Most people east of 10th Street West are not rich, nor are they middle-class. They are poor and cannot afford hobnobsnobby prices and entertainment. Most of us do the dollar menu at McDonalds when we have a lavish moment and want to feel a little normal. We also shop at the .99 Store for food and necessities, and we shop Second hand and discount stores like Ross and DDs Discount for our clothes and shoes...we also do hand-me-downs and freebies. If we want a movies night out and have squeezed a few bucks from one of our bills, we might, (and thats a big might), go to the dollar movies on a Monday night or just dig into our small repertoire of movies for a night in and snack on some grapes or something. If, (and thats a big if), we are lucky enough to acquire money for bowling, wed go to the one on Sierra Highway...cheaper. If I need emergency food, I can either walk or drive a mile or two to Grace Resources and not have to go across town and pray that I dont run out of gas on the way there. And before I go to sleep, I pray and thank God for the roof over my head because you never know when itll all be taken...and end up homeless and treated like a blight on someone elses standard of living. Its not easy to climb out of the homeless rut - especially when you have children. This is the reality of most people. Ill tell you who the REAL mom and pops are: Those are the ones like Arrow Appliance that switched hands from one mom and pop to another, and was located right there on Lancaster BLVD for MANY years, since its conception by the original mom and pop. They were bullied out of there, (or maybe palmed? Same difference), to a less visible spot on Yucca for the sake of the Association. I wonder what their quarterly sales are looking like these days. If they wanted to move to Yucca, they wouldve done it before conception of the Association. The BLVD Association is just bullying everyone around...with their Relocate Services funds that do nothing but put the homeless out of the way, and using the Metrolink as a bully tactic to get what The Association wants. I know my writes are long, but theres just so much wrong with what the Association is doing. If you didnt do your homework before opening business in a poor neighborhood/town, then how can that be the fault of the homeless and poor?
