Posted by a reader. Memorial Day, a day in which all Americans honor our MIA, POWs and Fallen Soldiers.....UNLESS, you are a student or teacher at Mineola ISD. Apparently the Mineola School Board and Superintendent, have decided that this year, it is much more important to cut out June 9th the last day of school and have our students and teachers in classes on a Nationally recognized day of remembrance for those who gave it all for our country, the POWs who never gave in and never gave up and the MIA who all of us pray will some day return home. Most would say that this is of no importance, schools being in session on Memorial Day. Personally I feel, that this is Un American and a contribution to the downfall of our nations pride, unity and morals. Who are we, if we stop remembering and recognizing those who risked everything to fight for our lives, our liberties and our justice? I shutter to think of what this nation would become, if those at home lost sight of of our nations heros selflessly putting it all on the line so that we have the right to say, NO, my children will not be attending class on Memorial Day, they will be sitting with their Grandfather, thankful he was one of the lucky ones. And praying for the families of those who never come home.
