Posted for a parent- Hay! guys need some advice and support right now. It has been a very bad week. We took Trevor our 16 year old with Autism to a new developmental specialist. The one he had been seeing for years retired. Anyway this new doctor was very blunt, and didnt sugar coat it. He said that Trevor has Autism with intellectual disabilities, and that he has the mind of a 8 year old. My heart was broken. I know he has Autism, but the intellectual disabilities scare me so bad. The doctor said Trevor will not be able to graduate high school. but instead after a time of learning new skills, he would get a certificate of completion. I never really had time to grieve when Trevor was first diagnosed. I had to read and educate myself, and do whatever it took to do what was best for Trevor. Now, everything has hit me hard. I just feel so helpless.
