The fourth email is an actual email sent to a UTLA member by her UTLA Representative quite recently on the eve of being dismissed by LAUSD. An activist has translated the letter from the original UTLAspeak to (English). Unanswered Questions: Email One -- Why is Arlene Scherry attempting to bully Michael Dominguez? When she writes about the goals of the committee, what are those goals? It seems the goals of the committee are to remain silent as LAUSD continues to target teachers. Is she an official spokesperson for all committee members, or has she just given herself that title? What is her goal? If she is unhappy with the direction of the committee, why doesnt she just resign? Email Two - Mr. Fuoroli uses the argument that due to the fact that Mr. Dominguez and Mr. Sorensen have been unfairly targeted by LAUSD for dismissal -- which is why they are involved with the UTLA Unjustly Jailed Teacher Committee in the first place -- and because he doesnt agree with their view of the direction of the committee -- they should not be allowed to set foot in the UTLA building! Sadly, this is is the exact same behavior LAUSD employs in dealing with teachers who challenge the often autocratic decisions of LAUSD administrators. Under what authority of the Officers is Mr. Fuoroli seeking their banishment from the UTLA building? Because he doesnt like what they say? When Mr. Fuoroli, in his own words, writes, Of course, the UHT Committee would like to see more done by UTLA and on a much faster timetable, what is he referring to? What timetable is that? Because it seems like UTLA is doing nothing. And his silence seems to indicate that Mr. Fuoroli is just fine with the way Housed Teachers are being treated by UTLA. What does he believe UTLA should be doing? Does Mr. Fuoroli view himself as the official spokesperson for the Unjustly Jailed Teachers Committee? He references the committee as if he speaks for everyone. Did the committee take a vote to approve his email before he sent it, or is he just assuming the title of committee spokesperson? When Mr. Fuoroli writes about the new UTLA Officers, does he realize that three of the seven Officers were in power the past three years, four others were on the Board of Directors also serving as Area Chairs, and all seven have been involved in leadership roles high within UTLA for more than the past ten years? Why is Mr. Fuoroli opposed to communicating with school board members? Shouldnt UTLA be communicating with school board members, letting them know about the conditions that housed teachers face? If Mr. Fuoroli is unhappy with the direction of the committee and the lack of action by UTLA on behalf of housed teachers, why doesnt he just resign? Email Three - Is it not a conflict of interest for Ms. Schwab to serve on the Unjustly Jailed Teachers committee when UTLA refers housed teachers for legal defense to a law firm owned by Ms. Schwabs husband? Given that Treasurer Inouye claims that UTLA cannot afford to defend housed teachers, what is UTLA doing to restore CTA Group Legal Insurance so teachers can have a fighting chance? Ms. Sherry claims that the purpose of the the secret meeting at Drago Central -- where Union Power candidates met with Superintendent Deasy shortly before the school board voted 5-1-1 to give Mr. Deasy a favorable evaluation -- was to discuss problem principals. If true, why didnt they meet at LAUSD or UTLA? Why did they exclude then President Fletcher? Why is it that Union Power candidates were the only candidates given release time by LAUSD to campaign during school hours, and when other candidates applied for that same provision, those requests were denied? Why hasnt UTLA issued a statement clarifying these and other questions, such as, who attended the Drago meeting? Who paid the bill? Is it not true that Mr. Deasy said at the meeting, we need to change the dysfunctional nature of UTLA, a statement that would indicate that the meeting was not about problem principals, but was, in fact, about the UTLA election? latimes/…/la-me-ln-utla-candidate-discipline… articles.latimes/…/la-me-ln-deasy-evaluation-rev… Why did Ms. Sherry and Mr. Fuoroli fail to notify teachers to mobilize at LAUSD October 29 when Mr. Deasy was given a favorable rating by school board members? Why did Ms. Sherry twice oppose a motion calling for Mr. Deasys resignation? Why does Ms. Sherry oppose organizing efforts to collect all housed teachers email addresses so they can stay in communication? Why does Ms. Sherry oppose letting all housed teachers know about Unjustly Jailed Teacher Committee meetings? Are these secret meetings or are they open to all UTLA members? Other general questions: How many teachers are housed at LAUSD? At home? What is UTLA doing to organize housed teachers? Is UTLA opposed to organizing housed teachers? If so, why? Why isnt UTLA doing anything to restore the group legal insurance that UTLA once had for housed teachers? Why hasnt UTLA provided an update on the status of housed teachers, and what it is doing to improve their situation? Is UTLA doing anything to advocate for housed teachers? Theyve probably given them stickers and buttons, but thats not helping. So, anything at all? Like, ANYTHING? And we mean ANYTHING? Why are Mr. Fuoroli and Ms. Sherry silent on all these issues? Do Ms. Sherry and Mr. Fuoroli also believe union activist Dave Peters - who was targeted by LAUSD for dismissal due to union activism - should not be allowed to set foot in the UTLA building? Why doesnt UTLA notify all housed teachers about Unjustly Jailed Teachers Committee meetings? These emails are troubling to say the least. Unlike Mr. Fuoroli and Ms. Sherry, however, we do not favor banning them from the UTLA building simply because we dont agree with their inaction and lack of strategy. Mr. Fuoroli, Ms. Sherry, UTLA Leadership -- been on any dues member paid vacations lately? Any comment on any of these questions, or can we continue to expect more inaction from UTLA? Both have been feeding information about UTLA and the Rehoused Teacher Committee to: rene diedtrich, mark hemphill, neil chertkoff, lenny isenberg, bill smith, george buzzeti etc, and publishing negative, defamatory information about UTLA and the UHT Committee Officers online for the last 3 months. Recently, they have reached new heights by publicly signaling out Names of both UTLA and UHT Committee Officers as sellout-colluders with LAUSD. Both Sorensen and Dominguez were dismissed 8-12 months ago from LAUSD employment, and we do not believe they have been paying UTLA dues. Dominguez is the treasurer of the UHT (unjustly housed teachers) Committee at present, although we plan to hold elections next month for all UHT Committee office positions. These emails attack UTLA and the UHT Committee. The communication is partly false, and partly true. The issue is not one of dissent or free speech, but of intentional harm AND actions that are hurtful to the goals of All UTLA members. The committee does not disagree with their goals, only how they seek to further their cause. If you had attended this meeting, you would have witnessed several interesting events. For example,Arlene Schery defended Colleen Schwabs attendance at the infamous Union Power Slate meeting with Superintendent Deasy. This meeting was simply to discuss three abusive principals and nothing more. Arlene Schery scolded those that would spread propaganda that would speculate collusion. Arlene Sherry attacked Michael Dominguez for constantly calling for a motion at every meeting. This meeting, he made a motion to be brought before the House of Representatives to call for UTLA to demand that Deasy be fired. Again, Arlene Schery reprimanded him and said that she was against this motion. Arlene Schery was furious that last month When Michael Dominguez made a motion that someone be hired to collect all housed teachers e-mail addresses so that housed teachers could maintain communications and notify each other of Unjustly Housed Teachers Committee meetings. This indicates that Arlene Schery and Mike Fuoroli want to control the dissemination of information. At no point did Mike Fuoroli or Arlene Schery request that all teachers meet at LAUSD Beaudry Headquarters on October 21st to denounce Deasy. Last year, on October 29th, Mike Fuoroli requested that all housed teachers from ESC South, West, East, and Beaudry meet at ESC North. Therefore, there were no Housed Teachers at Beaudry to counterattack Ben Austins Parent Revolution and Ryan Smiths United way. Most importantly, it is very disturbing that Colleen Schwab is a Co Chair of the Unjustly Housed Teachers Committee. This is further proof of collusion between Superintendent Deasy, Union Power Slate and Trygstad, Schwab & Trygstad. Hypothetically speaking, once UTLA Opted Out of CTA Group Legal Insurance, the Dismissed teachers would neither receive $20,000 nor access to CTA Attorneys. Union Power Slate Treasurer, Arlene Inouye explained to Michael Dominguez that UTLA could not afford to defend the Senior Housed Teachers because UTLA spent all of its resources defending the 9,000 Junior RIFd Teachers. This is clearly a lie because if UTLA had not Opted Out of CTA Group Legal insurance, 9,000 Junior RIFd Teachers would receive over $5,000 and access to CTA Attorneys. Therefore, this clearly unveils the collusion between LAUSD, UTLA and Trygstad, Schwab & Trygstad. The district would have never RIFd 9,000 teachers or Housed thousands of senior teachers if UTLA members were protected by CTA Group Legal Insurance. As it stands, Trygstad, Schwab & Trygstad have the monopoly on all the pain and suffering caused by their collusion!! (I am also sorry I couldnt even be bothered to let you know about this until after you asked me first and I had no choice but to answer you. In fact I am so very, very sorry that I have slipped into a catatonic state of depression. That is why I will do nothing meaningful to help you. Id really, really like to help you, but I am just too depressed. Can you help me? This is just so difficult for me to deal with. Please get back to me regarding anything you can do for me on my behalf. I really feel bad. Really. Really, really bad.) Please let your lawyer know immediately. (Because unlike the commitments we made to you both in the UTLA Constitution and all our UTLA Membership Benefits brochures weve been handing out for decades, brochures we recently changed thank God (using your dues money), we will be doing absolutely nothing to help you when it comes to lawyers. As soon as LAUSD puts you on unpaid status, though, you should have no problem spending your own money, the money you dont have, to defend yourself and cover all your legal fees, health insurance, food, rent, morgage, child care, etc. Good luck with that, by the way.) I also wanted to let you know that UTLA is here to help work out a settlement offer with the District if you are interested. (In the absence of providing any meaningful help to you since your nightmare began, I will ask the malevolent LAUSD administrators who put you in this miserable situation by using false allegations and/or accusing you of trivial infractions of school policy if they have a breadcrumb or two theyd like to toss in your direction in order to get you to quit as soon as possible as this will make it more convenient for both LAUSD and UTLA.)
