Posted on HiDeHo, with thanks to Cherry Beresfield and includes a little of what has been said by Dr. Goncalo Amaral Judge has no proof that book about Maddie “destroyed” the parents Published 18.40 Updated today at 20.32 By ÓSCAR QUEIRÓS A judge from the Lisbon Palace of Justice considered, on Wednesday, that the McCann couple did not suffer harm because of the publication of the book “The Truth of the Lie”, written by Gonçalo Amaral, in which the ex PJ coordinator alleges Kate and Gerry’s responsibility in the disappearance of their daughter. The judge Emília Melo e Castro, in her consideration of the claims in the civil case brought by Kate and Gerry against Gonçalo Amaral over the publication of the book “Maddie: The Truth of the Lie”, said, in a dispatch accessed by JN, that “it is not a proven fact that the plaintiffs Kate and Gerald McCann were destroyed from a moral, social and ethical point of view”, by the publication of the book. Whilst recognising that the British couple felt “anger, despair and anguish”, the judge said that it was not possible, “based upon the available proof, to discern” whether the alleged damage attributed to Gonçalo Amaral was “the consequence of Madeleine’s disappearance or due to “the effect of the book”. Melo e Castro added that “from the family’s point of view the evidence revealed a successful effort of cohesion” by the couple. She also considered that “from the sentimental/emotional point of view, it is not credible that the sequel of the facts in these files would go as far as the destruction or even in excess of the pain caused by the disappearance of their daughter”. Gonçalo Amaral has told JN that he is satisfied with the judge’s decision, emphasising that “the issue was to prove or disprove the facts”.
