Posted on behalf of Donna Taylor: The meeting last night was spectacularly attended, with the council chambers not only at capacity but overflowing into the hallways and even outside. There were at least 21 citizens that signed up to speak at the public hearing and each and every one of them spoke in opposition to the annexation. All kinds of issues were addressed from water to traffic, city services to quality of life and open space... property values, etc. It was such a wonderful representation of the citizens. Many of the citizens that spoke requested that all future annexations be put to a vote of the citizens... I dont know if that is even allowable under the State statues but I think it showed our city leaders that we expect to be better informed and want to participate in deciding the direction of growth in our city. Both the Trinity-Glen Rose GCD and Cow Creek GCD presented position statements. TGRGCD basically said it is up to the City and its citizens to decide, while CCGCD position was against annexation. The potential developer had his engineer present a presentation on how the development would attempt to be WaterWise, but it did not seem to sway anything in the minds of the citizens and it did not address in any meaningful manner any of the other concerns. I am hopeful that we can have the same turnout for the actual vote at the April 17th council meeting. Regarding the petition numbers*, at last look there are ~ 550 electronic and 145 handwritten. This already exceeds 10% of the voting population. Although this is an exceptional accomplishment we need to keep it going until the actual vote, so keep it moving with your friends and neighbors. There are still so many in Fair Oaks Ranch that are not aware. *The petition may be signed here: tinyurl/nmnt3ea Best regards, Donna Taylor 210-316-3066 dltaylor3@mac
