Posted this on Al Mairs timeline and thought I would share it with you here. Regarding last nights Juno Awards: Would have loved to have seen Lee Harvey Osmond, Courage My Love, and other new acts that did it their way perform on the telecast. Would have loved to have heard some Jazz and veterans like Downchild instead of the CHR, overplayed artists. The wins seemed Grammy-like in their fealty to success and popularity, instead of digging a little deeper into the vast amount of new fresh talent here in the Great White Snowglobe, and they should have a CONCERT Show for the lookie-loos, (which this was) and an AWARDS Show (which they had the night before) that we didnt get to see. And seriously...having Tom Wilson there and not having him perform or speak, was like having Leonard Cohen or Gord Lightfoot there and not putting them on the stage for all to see. The Junos are a victim of the desire for ratings and the youth demo that have spoiled the Grammys, and like the Grammys, the Junos have become a televised pat on the back instead of a savvy, fore-sighted, engaging, exposure of great talent to an uninformed public.
