Posting 1527 The songs that the late Carnatic Legend Smt. D.K. Pattammal rendered for films were all either devotional or patriotic. She never sang love duets and even hardly saw the films wherein she had sung. D.K. Pattammal was brought to playback singing by the lawyer-turned-filmmaker, K. Subramaniam (father of Padma Subramaiam) in ‘Thyaga Bhoomi’ (1939), written by ‘Kalki’ Krishnamurthi. But the film carrying the song ‘Desa Sevai Seyya Vareer..!’ of D.K.Pattammal, penned by ‘Kalki’ and tuned by Papanasam Sivan, did not reach the audience on the film itself becoming banned by the British. Similarly, She also sang ‘Sri Saraswathy’ in ‘Miss Malini’ (1947) but the song was not used in the film eventually. Barring such stray instances, she had great hits to her credit in her film singing career. Later, Pattammal gradually moved away from films as she established herself in the Carnatic music world. Pattammal sang two songs for the film ‘Mahatma Udangar’ (1947), directed by G. Pattu Iyer, ‘Kaana Aaval Kondengumen Iru Vizhigal...’ and ‘Kunchitha Paadham Ninainthu Urugum. The lyrics were by Papanasam Brothers, Sivan and Rajagopala Iyer, and the music by S. V. Venkataraman and T. R. Ramanathan. Here we are featuring one of them, Kunjithapatham filmed on Anjali Devi in her debut film role in Mahatma Udangar. The audio quality is poor in the video, but for the sake of antiquity value , trust, you would not mind it! youtube/watch?v=tqTBxxZCegU&sns=em
