Posting 1535 If someone riddles about a beautiful actress of yesteryears, with clues that she was the daughter of an erstwhile Tamil screen heroine, one who entered cinema in Tamil but became big in Hindi, one who married a medical doctor, on who became a Golf player & the one who wrote her biography titled Bonding, chances are some may identify her correctly as Vyjayanthimala, at least based on the majority of the clues. Separated from her mother, she was raised by her grandma, Yadugiri. She had herclassical dance tutelage under the famed Vazhuvur Ramaiah Pillai. In fact, it was Director M.V.Raman who identified the teenaged Vyjayanthi in one of her Bharathanatyam recitals at Gokhale Hall, Madras as a potential film star & cast her in AVMs Vaazhkkai (1949). But shortly after, she moved to Hindi & became the highest paid actress there. However, after the passing away of her hubby Dr.Bali, she dabbled in politics for a while. Later, she spent her quite times with her son, involving herself in shrimp farming & running a dance school at Chennai, where she lives now with her son, daughter in law & grandchild Swara. PeNN was another AVM production starred by her. Featuring here is a graceful dance number by her (both in male & female characters) from this film.
