Posting 1538 When Jack Ma founded his Chinese e-commerce business in 1999, with a mega vision, to provide C2C and B2B sales services via his web portal, he named his company, which is today listed even in NY Stock Exchange, after the famed Ali Baba of Arabian Nights fame. Their website states, Alibaba brings to mind open sesame, representing that our platforms open a doorway to fortune for small businesses. The story of Ali Baba has been widely retold and performed in many a media, especially in Movies. There have been two Tamil films titled Alibabavum 40 thirudargalum, the first film with N. S. Krishnan as Ali Baba in 1941, while the second film starring MGR was released in 1956. Here is a song in the voice of P.Bhanumathi Oh Amir Bhupathi from the Alibaba film starred by MGR, produced & directed by the legend T.R.Sundaram. The Music Director was S.Dakshinamurthy while the lyrics were penned by Maruthakasi. This film was the first colour film in Tamil. The Hindi word Amir would mean a wealthy individual but since the story is set in the Middle Eastern set up, perhaps it also referred to the word Emir (pronounced midway as aemir in Arabic) which is a title of high office in the Arab world, such as commander, general, or prince. From the word Emir only the land areas ruled by the Emirs came to be known as Emirates (Emarat in Arabic). youtu.be/kPt2I9TwxwI
