Posting 1546 It was interesting to read that when the Davos ski resort town, where the World Economic Forum is being held, got a fresh coat of snow on last Friday a frenzied rush was seen for masala chai and hot samosas at Make In India lounge, put up by The Taj with its celebrity Chef Hemant Oberoi. Indian Chai has attained a celebrity status, perhaps, after the chai pe charcha prior yo the last general elections. Talking of chai, the tea bushels were introduced to Indian soil during the British times. In Munnar, there are bushels still existing having been planted in that era. Drinking of tea was known in China from the fourth century. Tea plants didn’t grow in Japan until the first seeds were brought from China during the Tang dynasty when relations and cultural exchanges between the two countries reached a peak. Japanese Tea Ceremony is well known, having got its rule book From an eighth century book called Cha Ching Written by a Chinese Buddhist priest on the proper method of preparing tea. In the current world, Nicholas Palumbo & Simon George, who lived in Taiwan for three years & were enamoured by the Taiwanese Tea Culture, searched across the mystical island of Taiwan to rediscover the true art of tea making & found the perfect tea garden, in the highlands of over 5000 feet over sea level. They forged friendships with talented tea craftsmen to make tea & have been recently funded $ 15,000 by Kickstarter.Com in less than fifteen days. Tea as a beverage is hugely popular all over India. But often one would miss the aroma of tea, per se, with only sugar & milk overriding the basic taste of tea. The nomadic street vendor of tea is a common sight here. Here is one such vendor marketing his product with a song. Listen to Garam Chaya from Onru pattal unduvazhvu (1960), directed by T.R.Ramanna. The music director was K.V.Mahadevan. youtu.be/d0LPCtsxwmo
