Posting Title: Political Affairs Officer, P3 Job Code Title: POLITICAL AFFAIRS OFFICER Department/ Office: Department of Peacekeeping Operations Duty Station: NEW YORK Deadline: 26 July 2014 Job Opening number: 14-POL-DPKO-35270-R-NEW YORK (G) The officer will serve as a Political Affairs Officer responsible for Central African Republic and the Democratic Republic of Congo in the Africa II Division, Office of Operations, at the Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO). The officer may be called upon to travel in/to the area of assignment. Education Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in political science, international relations, international economics, law, public administration or other related. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Qualifying years of experience are calculated following the receipt of the first level university degree. Work Experience A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in political science, international relations, law, disarmament, security, development management, conflict resolution or related area. Experience in a UN peacekeeping operation or other relevant field operation in a civilian capacity is desirable. Experience in Africa is desirable. Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable.
