Posting a photo of Tarella in Amherst St Cammeray. A DA has been submitted to turn this beautiful place into a Childcare Facility, thus installing lifts, and a car park in the front of the building, removing the fountain etc. Tarella was built (C 1884) as the home of Sir Joseph Palmer Abbott, speaker for the NSW Legislative Assembly. It is one of the few remaining gentleman’s residences on the lower north shore and is probably the last remaining villa in Cammeray designed in the Victorian Italianate architectural style. It retains a large (by Cammeray standards) semi-formal front garden; but the rear yard long-ago swallowed by the Warringah Expressway.
