Posting again due to demand. I think if you share it youll have it on your own page. For an authentic Goody Burger: TO BUILD- The hamburger was to be a quarter pound, as it always was. It was to be served on a 4-inch bun, toasted. It was to have three pickle slices - not two, not four. It was to be slathered in exactly 2 ounces of Secret Sauce, then sprinkled with raw onions - in chunks, not too finely chopped. GOODY-GOODY HAMBURGER SAUCE 3 T. butter 15 oz. can tomatoes, whole or cut 1 t. celery seed 1/2 clove garlic, minced 1 t. pepper 1/4 t. salt 1 small onion, minced (about 1/4 c.) 1 T. lemon juice Combine all in a small but heavy saucepan. Cook low for 3-4 hours, stirring occasionally. The tomatoes will break up as they cook and will form a thick sauce. This recipe makes enough for about 8 hamburgers. For 3 PINTS: From ACTUAL NEWSPAPER CLIPPING, courtesy of Bea Thompson: 1 Stick of butter 3 (16 oz.) cans whole peeled tomatoes 1 Tbs. Celery Seed 1 Clove Garlic, Minced 1 Tbs. Pepper 1 Tbs. Salt 2 Small Onions, Finely Chopped Same general directions as for 8 hamburgers (above). This is the recipe I used. If Im going to be cooking for 4 hours I wanted to have some extra. It was quite tasty and very much like a Goody Burger. Of course I havent had one in ages so if anyone makes this, tell me if you thing its authentic. I think its the celery seed that makes this so unique.
