Posting for Anonymous: I was in training for a marathon in summer/fall and out of nowhere started having knee pain. Went to an ortho, who gave me a steroid shot and said if it doesnt work, it may be a stress reaction or fracture and I will need an MRI to confirm. Shot didnt help. Went for MRI, which showed bursitis. I was able to continue to train with minimal pain. A few days before the marathon, I got another shot, as it was still slightly hurting and thought a shot would get me through the marathon. During the marathon, the same knee locked up, but on the opposite (outside) area of the bursitis. I was able to finish, but since the marathon I cannot run over 4-5 miles without that locked-up feeling, which stops my run because of pain. I see a physical therapist and strength coach regularly. My last trip to PT revealed that it is pretty swollen, and I havent been running or spinning. So they think its time to re-visit the doctor, but I dont want to see another ortho. Plus, the pain just keeps getting worse and its painful to walk. I really need a good sports med doc who specializes in runners and knows knees! Any recommendations?
