Potential new way to treat MS: Recent research from the University of Bristol has provided encouraging evidence that MS could be treated by retraining the immune system so that it doesnt attack myelin. In a mouse model of MS, researchers found that by gradually increasing doses of segments of the myelin molecule injected under the skin, it was possible to reset the immune system so that it no longer treated myelin as a foreign tissue. Their research also suggested that immune cells which had been attacking the myelin could be converted into cells capable of protecting against disease.
