Powell County Schools has cancelled classes and will be closing Stanton Elementary School on Thursday and Friday to work on the issues of bats in the building, according to a statement on their website.The website states all other schools in the district, bus transportation and all other activities will operate on their normal schedules.The animals were first spotted at the school about a month ago. And while school officials thought the problem had been solved, it appears there are still some bats in different locations in the building. Attendance dropped on Wednesday due to concerns among parents. Although officials at the school say there are three or four bats in the building, what worries some parents is the diseases the animals can carry.Superintendent Michael Tate say they are working on getting the issue resolved.We have a company out of Lexington Animal Control that is coming in and checking holes or anything in and around the school where bats can be coming in, Tate said.
