Power Struggle Hits Nimba County Again …Superintendent And Legislative Caucus Fall Apart By: Samuel B Diggs It has been disclosed in Monrovia on various radio Talk Shows that the root cause of the confusion in Nimba County is the scraps that was left behind by the Liberian American Mining Company (LAMCO). According to some officials from the Office of Nimba County Superintendent, the Caucus complained the Superintendent based on their differences on the scale of scraps in the County. The media coordinator in the Office of Nimba County Superintendent Armstrong Selekpah said because Superintendent Fong Zuagele is not going in line with their demand in the selling of the scraps in Nimba County. The revelation from the Spokesperson of the Superintendent Zuagele was proven by the Superintendent himself before Plenary of the House of Representatives on Tuesday September 23, 2014. Superintendent Zuagele speaking before Plenary of the House of Representative informed the August Body that the crisis in Nimba County has a deep root amongst leaders of the County. Speaking on the issue of the scraps in the County Superintendent Zuagele disclosed that when he took over the County there was a bidding process that was on going for the sale of the scraps. According to him two companies were bidding for the scraps but the Lawmakers had interest in one of the companies which he noted makes the process very difficult. Commenting on the one hundred thousand United States Dollars that was made available by the Legislative Caucus from the County Social Development Fund that was used for the fight against Ebola in the County. Superintendent Zuagele disclosed that the money was not only used by his office alone but he was able to call all executive of the County Leadership to discuss on how the money should be used. The Nimba County Superintendent also disclosed that the suspension of the Project Management Committee Chairman was done by his office. Superintendent Zuagele said even though he has no power to suspend the PMC chairman but he used his administrative power to carry out the suspension. After his elucidation before full Plenary of the House of Representatives, Plenary came up with a decision that they can no longer work with Superintendent Zuagele. Speaking earlier the Minister of Internal Affairs Morris Dukuly asked Plenary to forgive the Superintendent but his appeal did not yield anything. Nimba County District # Representative Richard Matenokay Tingban has described the County Superintendent as very arrogant to elected Officials of the County. In a communication to Plenary of the House of Representatives, Representative Tingban disclosed that the Superintendent Fong Zuagele has no respect for the Legislative Caucus of Nimba County. Representative Tingban in his communication stated that Superintendent Zuagele has violated Article 3 of the Liberia Constitution. He added that the attitude of the Superintendent of Nimba County is troubling and needs some attention from the Legislature. It can be recalled that Representative Tingban informed Plenary of the House of Representatives that the action by the Superintendent is not in the right direction of development for Nimba County. The Nimba County Lawmaker alleged the Superintendent is involved with high level of corruption in the County. He disclosed that after the induction of the Superintendent Zuagele he unilaterally placed a hold on the County Account without reference to the County’s Caucus thereby retarding all approved ongoing projects as a result of the last County Council sitting. In count two of the Representative’s Communication to Plenary of the House of Representatives, the Nimba County Lawmaker disclosed that Superintendent Zuagele without regard to the structure and programs the superintendent met in the County, he single handedly placed the 21 pieces of yellow machines originally under the supervision of the Project Management Committee (PMC) under his control.
