Powered by The Testament This is an interview of a no-nonsense guy from DTU with The Testament. He got placed in ADOBE with a whopping package of 16 lakhs per annum. Here is what he has to say. TT: Many congratulations to you on your accomplishment. How do you feel about it? Student: Thank you! Obviously I’m feeling great, I’m really proud and happy to be at this stage. TT: As you know there are great number of engineers out there, competition is quite fierce, what do you think is the factor that has been effective enough in taking you through? Is it the passion for engineering, a prolonged and sincere hard work or you think you are fortunate enough apart from being quite intelligent? Student: (Giggles briefly) See, I don’t think I have ever been that passionate about engineering. I consider myself a DEMAND BASED ENGINEER, I have worked hard throughout and yes at the same time I have been lucky enough. As there were numerous candidates for the job and some were even more qualified than me. So I think fortune favoured me over the few. Having said that, I must convey that I firmly believe that hard work and the great deal of effort that I have put in contribute equally to such a candidature of myself. TT: That’s really commendable. Could you please elaborate a bit more on that DEMAND BASED ENGINEER part? Student: Sure, first of all one must know the requirements of the company and analyse how much can he/she be worth to the company. Hence opt for a directional preparation from an early stage. This requires the knowledge of what all companies come to the college for recruitments from 1st or 2nd year itself. One should also be clear on what do the recruiters seek during an interview and what must be presented before them as our profile. Customise your resume or your services according to the needs of the company. This is a very important point that can affect your chances to a great extent. TT: Please share your journey with our readers. Student: Yeah sure. Right from the beginning I was careful about my score. I would suggest to all the young engineers to try and maintain a good academic score from at least 3rd year. I explored a bit and I realized that it is important to have a good score on your resume as some companies who don’t even consider students for placements with below 70% score. Being a CS student I made sure that I have a good command over the basics especially C and C++ languages. That’s what many companies look for. Once you are confident over them then you may learn languages like JAVA. Companies prefer the one who knows well about the logics and concepts of programming. In other words, the more a person can think like a computer, the better programmer he/she is. I consulted few books and sites to have a more profound knowledge. C/C++ by Narsimha Karumanchi, Crack the interview and geeksforgeeks to name the few. I also worked as an intern at Air India (computer department) and did a course in C Sharp from Hewlett-Packard Education Services. I started investing in myself from the beginning. And that paid! TT: Very well said sir. How much do you think that the soft skills are important in an engineering interview? Student: If you are a good communicator, its a bonus. If not, its not that bad. Companies look for the technical aspects in an engineer. They want to know what all programming languages he/she can work on, what all algorithms does the candidate know. So being more focussed upon building the technical aspects is important. And this applies to all branches. Although to leave a good impression, working on your soft skills is always a good idea. TT: Thank you for your time sir, I guess that would be all. Student: you’re welcome! All the best with The Testament, its really a good venture and can be of great help for students.
