Powerful time at Bible Study tonight. I taught the well known story of David and Goliath. The story is not just about the battle its about the burden. In Chapter 16 when Samuel came to Jesses house to anoint a king, David was with the sheep. He had to be summoned from the sheep to be made king. But notice, he goes BACK to the sheep. Without doing a full exegetical analysis here is the common thread between chapters 16 - 17, DAVID HAS AN AFFINITY FOR SHEEP. So much so that he gains a reputation as being a man of war with no real BATTLE TIME at all. When Saul asks for Davids qualifications regarding the battle with Goliath, here was Davids response: HES BOTHERING THE SHEEP. The size of the enemy or the species of the enemy is of no consequence. I am passionate about SHEEP. I will not lose ONE sheep for any reason. The text deals with Davids Passion, Davids Past, Davids Praise. HIS PASSION DROVE HIM AND ALLOWED HIM TO DEFEAT GOLIATH. Its all about the Passion for Sheep and the value of life. Do you care about sheep/souls? Arent you tired of watching lives senselessly lost? GET PASSIONATE....WHO IS THIS UNCIRCUMCISED PHILISTINE WHO DEFIES THE SHEEP, I mean, ARMIES OF ISREAL??? SHEEP MATTER....
