[email protected] This year I am offering Practical Awareness workshops for the Equestrian with my colleague, Amanda Rothwell (Equine Therapist). Over the past years I have observed how difficult many people, with horses, can find it to learn something new, over ride deep seated habits of both mind and body, co-ordinate brain, limb, posture and direction etc with awareness. I have spent a lot of time studying why this is the case and have come to the understanding that often just working with the mind as to awareness/mindfulness is not enough to address issues with how the brain and body together enter and/or adapt to change. The purposes of these workshops are to create an environment of ‘aha’ moments, fun and inspiration by utilising a selection of practical exercises which can be processed by mind body and spirit to enable new and exciting connections and skills to be created. More information Part of the changes awareness brings is to enter a centred state of patience, acceptance, creativity and truly being in the moment. This is the place I feel the horse resides in with enjoyment. Learning about how one can be more in tune mentally and physically with the horse, even in just the basic stages can unleash a deeper understanding of the mind and the ability to connect the body and make clear choices meaningful to the horse . Amanda and I have put together a rather innovative set of one day workshops which practically prepare and address these aspects. When people are introduced to working with a horse or even another person without a direct line of contact via a rope or with a horse at liberty, for example, it can feel so non-tangible to them enough to cause noticeable frustration and confusion. By designing exercises that specifically show how our horses may feel as to the result of our actions, or not, insight can be gained to clarify the way they may be drawn to respond. We, therefore, can gain clarity, precision and insight on many levels to create a deeper connection with them. This workshop experience is applicable for all levels of equestrians because the experience is individual. My original passion was to introduce ‘horsemanship through Feel’ principles but I discovered My original passion was to introduce ‘horsemanship through Feel’ principles but I discovered the leap into Feel can itself feel too big a change from more ‘traditional’ practice for people due to the above.
