Practice Gem 26 FIRST AID FOR FEAR STATES Technique One: Do whatever is comfortable: to breathe fast and deep, such as running, walking, push-ups, or sit-ups. Use common sense, and don’t push your body beyond comfortable limits. Always follow the advice of your physician when exercising. Technique Two: Sit comfortably and place your right thumb over your right nostril (or left if you’re left handed). Breath in deeply, then out. Then move your middle finger over the opposite nostril, breath in deeply, then out. Repeat for several minutes. Technique Three: Lie down and breathe with connected breaths (no space between the in and out breaths) that are deep and fast. If your legs, arms, or face feel numb or tingle, take slower and shallower breaths. When finished, breathe normally a couple of minutes before standing up.
