Practice training your dog or puppy in your house and garden - TopicsExpress

Practice training your dog or puppy in your house and garden first, where there are no distractions. Only once you have the dogs attention in the home and he/her is doing what you ask him/her to do, do you take the training in public areas like parks, but even then you start off with minimal distractions and build on it. Training begins as soon as you take puppy a new dog home, but Keep sessions short and enjoy it, stop before the dog switches off or gets bored. Remeber just like us, dogs are learning all throughout their lives, make sure they are learning the things you want them to learn, not things you do not want. Always end on a good note, so the dog enjoys it and wants to do the exercises again. Have a play with the dog at the end of your training session. Be consistent and very clear when asking the dog or pup to do anything. If he/she does not do what you ask, make sure he/she knows what you mean, have you taken the time to teach him what you want.If not you cannot expect the pup or dog to understand what you want. Nothing happens over night, it takes patience, kindness, calmness, repletion and consistency. NEVER EVER hit your dog or puppy or yell at them, none of these things will help you, but many dogs that are hit become hand shy or may challenge you, which you do not want. If you are becoming frustrated end your training walk away, calm down and try again later Be a leader to your dog. Being a leader is not about being bossy, it is about showing and teaching the dog what you want, setting your rules and boundaries and following them through. Teaching them good manners, how to act around other dogs, people and things they will meet in their lives. Remember as leader you make the decisons, not the dog. Think of it like this, if you have children, you show them what you want, you teach them good manners, you take the time to show them what you want them to do.. Children go to nursery and school to get an education, for dogs an education it is called dog training. A well trained dog gets to go more places than a dog with no training, why? Because a well trained dog is a pleasure to take out and about. You only ever get out of life what you are prepared to put in and dogs are no different, invest time in training them and reap the rewards. Make sure Children are taught how to act around dogs, get your chldren involved in training the puppy or dog. You will have many happy years with your dog if you put the work in from day one.
