She composes gentle ironic situations, both funny and ruthless. Elements of her works often belong to animals -dead or alive-, the domestic universe, and disguises. She creates dualistic relationships between them with humor, tenderness and cruelty. Cathy de la Cruz: Cathy is currently earning an MFA in Creative Writing at the University of Arizona in Tucson. She holds another MFA is in Visual Art and Film/Video from the University of California, San Diego where she was a San Diego Fellowship recipient. She’s not addicted to school, but rather to mining artistic possibilities for their potential to hold her ballooning visions, comedic prophecies, and celebrations of the rare, beautiful and possibly dead. Most recently, Cathy taught filmmaking to youth in Los Angeles with an organization called Venice Arts and in Sweden on behalf of the Stockholm International Film Festival. This summer, Cathy was awarded artist residencies to Prairie Center of the Arts in Peoria, Illinois and the New York Mills Arts Retreat in Minnesota. She assisted him with an installation of sculpture on his 20-acre property in Ashland, OR. As a mentor, he was a strong influence, both aesthetically and philosophically on her early development as an artist. In recent years she has managed the Estate of John Paul Jones collection. Susanne was a member of the Phoenix Gallery in New York where she had solo exhibitions in 2001 and 2003. She has also been included in many National Juried Competitions. Susanne taught Painting, Color Theory and Art Appreciation as an Adjunct Faculty member at Rowan University from 2004-2006.
